Nailing a Long Speech
I learn a long passage in several steps. First I make certain I understand exactly the meaning of the words I'm saying. For the audience or the other actors to understand what I'm talking about I must understand it. Second I sit in a chair, turn off all distractions, take my glasses off and start memorizing the lines. Once I can say them sitting in a chair rapidly I get up and start pacing while saying the line. Then I begin doing other routine tasks while saying the line. Finally I go to rehearsal and screw it all up.
